British University Vietnam (BUV) recently held its annual scholarship award ceremony, recognizing 150 outstanding students with scholarships worth hundreds of billions of Vietnamese dong—equivalent to approximately 1 billion VND, or $385,170 USD—in acknowledgment of their academic excellence.
The recipients hailed from some of Vietnam’s most prestigious high schools, including HUS High School for Gifted Students, HNUE High School for Gifted Students, Chu Van An High School, and Kim Lien High School.
Representatives from BUV highlighted that the awardees not only showcased exceptional academic achievements but also demonstrated strong leadership, energy, and the ability to inspire their peers.
A New Perspective on Study Abroad
Kieu Le Khanh An, an outstanding student from Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An Province, was awarded BUV’s distinguished “Founders” Scholarship. With an IELTS score of 8.0 and a proven record in provincial and national English competitions, An chose to pursue a degree in finance at BUV rather than study abroad. She emphasized the importance of staying close to her family while gaining insight into Vietnam’s financial landscape.
“I believe BUV’s dynamic academic environment will help me become a successful risk management expert who contributes to Vietnam’s sustainable economic growth,” An shared. She also expressed her dream of founding a nonprofit organization to support premature infants—a cause dear to her, as she was born prematurely herself.
Nguyen Khoa Dang, an accomplished student from Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, received the “British Ambassador” Scholarship. He views BUV as the ideal platform to pursue his international academic goals. “BUV promotes creativity and vitality, and its curriculum aligns perfectly with UK standards,” he said, noting his excitement about experiencing a world-class education without leaving his home country.
Breaking Barriers in Technology
Nguyen Khanh Linh, recipient of the “Queen of Technology” Scholarship, expressed her long-standing ambition to study in an international environment and gain exposure to cutting-edge knowledge in her field. She found her aspirations fulfilled at a modern Vietnamese university that also keeps her close to her family.
Linh’s mother, Thuy Linh, initially wanted her daughter to study abroad but changed her mind after learning more about BUV. “I was deeply impressed by BUV’s scholarship program supporting women in technology. I believe my daughter will thrive in such an innovative environment,” she said proudly.
A Shift in Educational Choices
The growing enthusiasm among top students for BUV scholarships reflects a broader shift in how Vietnamese families perceive international education. Increasingly, students are recognizing that a high-quality, internationally-aligned education does not require leaving the country.
This evolution highlights the benefits of choosing local institutions that meet both global standards and personal needs—economic, cultural, emotional, and professional.
BUV is the first university in Vietnam to achieve QS 5-star status and the first in Vietnam and the ASEAN region to be accredited by the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). With a curriculum that blends theory and practice, BUV boasts a 100% graduate employability or further study rate within three months of graduation.
