New Delhi, May 6 — The Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduate programmes (CUET UG) 2025, originally scheduled to begin on May 8, is likely to be postponed by at least a week, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The delay stems from the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) failure to release city intimation slips and admit cards in a timely manner, prompting concerns over preparedness and coordination. A meeting between officials from the NTA and the University Grants Commission (UGC) is expected to take place later today to finalize the decision.
Sources have indicated that the examination may now be held starting next weekend. This revised timeline is intended to give the NTA sufficient time to issue the necessary documents and logistical information to candidates.
The possible deferment has sparked frustration among students, many of whom are now reconsidering their academic plans. “It is appalling that such a big exam is being treated so carelessly. It is clear that the NTA doesn’t care about our future,” said a Class 12 student from Delhi aspiring to study BCom at Delhi University.
Echoing this sentiment, another Class 12 student from Chandigarh shared that she has opted out of the CUET UG altogether, choosing instead to focus on applying to universities abroad.
CUET UG serves as a gateway for undergraduate admissions across all central universities and several state universities in India. With thousands of students relying on the exam for admission to higher education institutions, any disruption in its schedule poses significant implications.
